Handovers that keep their context

A practical checklist for passing a project to another team.

Write for someone arriving today

The person taking over needs the current state, the next deadline and the reason behind the important decisions. Link those details from one handover note. Put unfinished work in a checklist with an owner rather than hiding it in a long narrative.

Walk through the resources together

A short handover conversation works best when both people can see the same project overview. Open the important documents, check permissions and explain which resources are current. Record any missing context while the outgoing owner is available.

Finish with a review date

Agree when the new owner will review the handover and where they should put questions. A few days of overlap can surface details that nobody thought to write down. Update the note once more, then move the completed project into the archive.
